Polish Director Wins BAFTA Award

Agata Jagodzińska received the BAFTA New Talent Award for Best Screenplay in the Fiction: Under 30 Minutes category. The New Talent Awards are dedicated to young filmmakers and awarded by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Polish Film Wins Best Screenplay Award

Jagodzińska received her award for best screenplay in the Fiction: Under 30 Minutes category for a Polish-language film shot in Poland. Tajemnica spowiedzi (Secret of Confession) tells the tale of a devout elderly lady who decides to punish a group of local youths, appalled at their ungodly behaviour. The film was also nominated as Best Film. Tajemnica spowiedzi (Secret of Confession) was written and directed by Agata Jagodzińska.

Other Polish Nominees

Polish filmakers received a total of three nominations for this year’s BAFTA New Talent Awards. In addition to Agata Jagodzińska, another nominee was Polish cinematographer Marek Borkowski for his work on the UK short film Rabbit Punch, directed by Neil Hartop. Rabbit Punch defeated Secret of Confession in the Best Short Film category.

The BAFTA New Talent Awards ceremony was held on March 22 in Scotland.
