Polish Documentaries in Leipzig

Four Polish films are screening in various competitions at the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film – DOK Lepzig 2009. The festival takes place between October 26 and November 1.

The Actors by Tomasz Wolski will screen in the International Documentary Competition. Where the Sun Doesn’t Rush by Matej Bobrik and Flightless Birds by Michał Dawidowicz will be shown in the International Young Talent Competition, while The Chick by Michał Socha will screen in the International Competition for Animated Film.

Four Polish documentaries will be be shown in the Panorama section of the festival. These films are Chemo by Paweł Łoziński (recently awarded the Prix Europa for best documentary), Sentenced for Life by Marcin Koszałka, Sidetrack by Anna Kazejak and Happy Jews by Jonathan Rosenbaum.

The International Documentary Competition will also include the film 17 August by Alexandr Gutman. This project is a Russian-Polish co-production. But that’s not the last of Polish films at this festival. Special screenings will include the documentary Rabbit à la Berlin by Bartosz Konopka (shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination), the animated film Esterhazy by Izabela Plucińska. A special screening devoted to the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall will include Workers ’80 by Michał Bukojemski,
Andrzej Chodakowski and Andrzej Zajączkowski, Stories from the Round Table by Piotr Bikont and Leszek Dziumowicz, and Exit by Małgorzata Bieńkowska.

The winner of the Main Competition award, the Golden Dove, will be announced on November 1. Last year’s winner was Till It Hurts by Marcin Koszałka.
