Polish Film Week in Iran

The upcoming edition of the Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran, which launches on January 31, will feature the Polish Film Week in Iran, a showcase of Polish feature and short films.

Polish Film Week

The Polish Film Week will be the first major showcase of Polish cinema in Iran in over 30 years. The lineup of the Polish Film Week in Iran includes six feature films: Katyń (Katyn) and Człowiek z żelaza (Man of Iron) by Andrzej Wajda, Pora umierać (Time to Die) and Jutro będzie lepiej (Tomorrow Will Be Better) by Dorota Kędzierzawska, Mój Nikifor (My Nikifor) by Krzysztof Krauze, and Życie jako śmiertelna choroba przenoszona drogą płciową (Life as a Fatal Sexually-Transmitted Disease) by Krzysztof Zanussi.

In addition to the features films, audiences will also have an opportunity to enjoy a selection of 21 short films, including the Academy Award®-nominated Katedra (The Cathedral) by Tomasz Bagiński, as well as several short films made within the framework of three programmes of Munk Studio of the Polish Filmmakers Association: “30 Minutes”, “First Documentary” and “Young Animation”. These films include Konfident (The Confidant) by Rafał Kapeliński, Co mówią lekarze (What the Doctors Say) by Michał Wnuk, Wielkanoc (Easter) by Monika Jordan-Młodzianowska, Portret z pamięci (Portait from Memory) by Marcin Bortkiewicz, Konkurs (The Contest) by Jakub Cuman, Niebo (Heaven) by Jan Matuszyński, and Underlife by Jarosław Konopka.

Polish Delegation at the Festival

“What we know about Iran from the media does not give reason to be optimistic. Which makes the wisdom, beauty, and humour of Iranian films all the more surprising. I suppose the Iranians know about us even less than we know about them. For them, this will be the first opportunity to experience a wide selection of Polish films. I cannot wait to screen my film What the Doctors Say in Iran today. It would be wonderful to have the Q&A session after the screening begin with discussing the film, but then develop in other directions, and last longer than the film itself,” says director Michał Wnuk.

Polish cinema during the Polish Film Week in Iran will be represented by Dorota Kędzierzawska, Andrzej Roman Jasiewicz, president of the Children’s Film section of the Polish Filmmakers Association, Michał Wnuk, president of the Young Filmmakers section of the Polish Filmmakers Association, Juliusz Braun, chairman of the board of Polish Television, Jacek Fuksiewicz, advisor to the General Director of the Polish Film Institute on Literary and European Affairs, and Filip Bajon, who will be one of the jury members at the Fajr International Film Festival.
