Polish Films at 13th goEast

Five Polish films are featured in the lineup of the 13th goEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film, which runs from April 10 through April 16, 2013 in Wiesbaden.

Mój rower (My Father’s Bike) and Eksmisja (Resettlement) in Competition

Among over 350 entries, the festival programmers selected 16 competition films made by Central and Eastern European filmmakers. Selected titles include two films from Poland. The Feature Film Competition will screen Mój rower (My Father’s Bike) by Piotr Trzaskalski. The Documentary Film Competition will feature Eksmisja (Resettlement) by Filip Antoni Malinowski. The latter film previously screened and received awards at film festivals in Krakow, Poznań, and Łódź.

Films in both competition sections will compete for the festival’s two grand prizes of 10,000 euros each, the award for best director (7,500 euros), and the award for artistic originality (2,500 euros). The competition will be judged by an international jury, led by Hungarian director Bence Fliegauf.

Polish Cinema in Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Darmstad, and Mainz

W imię… (In the Name Of…) by Małgorzata Szumowska and W sypialni (In a Bedroom) by Tomasz Wasilewski will screen in the ‘Beyond Belonging’ out-of-competition section that showcases films about the relationship between the sexes and the changes in our perception of sexuality. The ‘Highlights’ section is the festival’s selection of Central and Eastern European genre films and will feature Władysław Pasikowski’s film Pokłosie (Aftermath). Thanks to the cooperation between the goEast festival and the Deutsches Polen-Institut in Darmstad, Pokłosie (Aftermath) and W sypialni (In a Bedroom) will also screen in Frankfurt, Mainz and Darmstad. One of the festival’s special presentations will focus on the profile of the Ale Kino! International Festival of Films for Young Audiences, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

goEast

The first edition of the goEast festival took place in 1991 at the initiative of the German Film Institute. The goal of this event was to bring the development of the film market in Central and Eastern Europe to the attention of international audiences. The festival is also a good opportunity for industry meetings and networking among filmmakers from various countries. Every year, festival audiences have an opportunity to see approximately 150 feature, short and documentary films in several festival sections. The festival will also host the goEast Project Market.
