Polish Films at 2014 Visions du Réel

Several Polish documentary films will screen at the Visions du Réel International Documentary Film Festival in Nyon, Switzerland. The festival runs from April 25 through May 3, 2014.

Polish Films in Competition

Three competition sections feature Polish films in their lineup. The festival’s International Short Film Competition will screen Małe instrumenty (Small Instruments) by Edyta Wróblewska. Maksimum przyjemności by Katarzyna Trzaska will screen in the medium-length documentary competition. The feature documentary competition will show Efekt domina (The Domino Effect), a film by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski.

“Gdzie ja” Screening in Premiers Pas Category

The festival’s Premiers Pas section dedicated to young filmmakers features Gdzie ja, a student film by Arjun Talwar. This Polish-Indian co-production tells the story of one day in the life of a hermit from the Tamil Nadum province in India.

Polish Project in the Rough Cut Lab Section

Rafał Skalski’s Monk of the Sea (Mnich z morza) will screen in the festival’s section for films by first- and second-time directors. The concept behind this project is to assist filmmakers in the challenging editing process. During the festival, films in the Rough Cut Lab are shown to film experts and later discussed with their creators. Filmmakers also have an opportunity to take advantage of one-on-one sessions.

Małe instrumenty (Small Instruments), Efekt domina (The Domino Effect), Gdzie ja and Monk of the sea have been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Visions du Réel

Nyon’s Visions du Réel festival is one of the top documentary film festivals in Europe. Guests at past editions of the festival have included Arnaud des Pallières, Kevin Jerome Everson, Eyal Sivan, Laila Pakalnina, Johan van der Keuken, Robert Kramer, Aleksander Sokurow, Robert Frank, Raymond Depardon, and Frederick Wiseman. The festival features a number of industry events, including a co-production market, two pitching fora (Pitching du Réel and Pitching RTS “Perspectives d’un Doc”), seminars and panel discussions in the ‘Doc Think Tank’ programme, series of meetings on film distribution and sales (‘Docs in Progress’ programme), and a digital video library. Past editions of the festival have screened films by Polish directors Marcin Koszałka and Bartek Konopka.
