Polish Films at 43rd Molodist IFF

Several Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute are featured in the lineup of the 43rd Molodist International FIlm Festival, which runs from October 19 through October 27, 2013 in Kiev.

Polish Films Scheduled to Open and Close the Festival

This year’s edition of the Molodist International Film Festival will open with a screening of Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope), directed by Andrzej Wajda. The film had its theatrical release in Poland on October 4. The festival will then close with a screening of Ari Folman’s The Congress, which previously screened in the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes IFF. Both films have been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Student Film Competition

The lineup of the international student film competition features two Polish films that have received wide acclaim in Poland and abroad: Ziegenort, an animated film directed by Tomasz Popakul (National Film School in Łódź) and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, and Matka (The Mother), a graduation film by Łukasz Ostalski (Gdynia Film School).

Short Film Competition

The festival’s international short film competition will screen two Polish films produced at the ‘Young and Cinema’ Andrzej Munk Studio, supported by the Polish Film Institute: 128. szczur (128th Rat), a short feature directed by Jakub Pączek and Gwizdek (The Whistle), a documentary film by Grzegorz Zariczny, awarded at the Sundance festival.

Papusza

The Molodist festival will also feature a special screening of Papusza, a film directed by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Papusza previously received Special Mention of the Main Competition Jury at the 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

The 43rd Molodist International Film Festival runs from October 19 through October 27, 2013.
