Polish Films at Anima Mundi 2013

Polish animated films will once again feature in the lineup of the Anima Mundi festival, which runs from August 2 through August 11 in Rio de Janeiro and from August 14 through August 18 in São Paulo. The festival will be accompanied by a retrospective entitled ‘The Polish Animation School – Past and Future Generations’.

Short Film Competition

Four Polish films have been selected for screening in the festival’s Short Film Competition: Co się dzieje, gdy dzieci nie chcą jeść zupy (What Happens When Children Don’t Eat Soup) by Paweł Prewencki, Dróżnik (The Railway Watchman) by Piotr Szczepanowicz, Ex animo by Wojciech Wojtkowski, and On/Off by Piotr Ludwik.

Other Festival Sections

The Panorama section of Anima Mundi will feature Noise by Przemysław Adamski. The festival’s Portfolio section will screen a Polish-Japanese co-production entitled Katachi, directed by Przemysław Adamski and Katarzyna Kijek. The Animation of Course lineup will include Bear Me, a Polish-German co-production directed by Katarzyna Wilk and the Annecy-award-winning Ab Ovo, directed by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi. Kigo, directed by Izuma Yoshida, will screen in the Gallery section of the festival.

The Polish Animation School – Past and Future Generations

The Polish Animation School retrospective will showcase a selection of classic works and more recent Polish animations. Selected films include animations by Witold Giersz, Walerian Borowczyk, Zbigniew Rybczyński, Daniel Szczechura, Piotr Dumała, Mariusz Wilczyński, Tomasz Bagiński, Izabela Plucińska, Marek Skrobecki, Wiola Sowa, Marta Pajek, and Tytus Majerski. The retrospective has been organized by the Rotunda Association (Etiuda&Anima Festival) and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
