Polish Films at CinEast

Several Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute will screen at the 6th CinEast International Film Festival, which runs in Luxembourg from October 9 through October 27, 2013.

Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) as Opening Film

The opening film of the festival will be Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope), a film directed by Andrzej Wajda and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The film had its world premiere at the 70th Venice International Film Festival and will be released theatrically in Poland on October 4, 2013.

Imagine in Main Competition

Imagine, a co-production between Poland, France and Portugal directed by Andrzej Jakimowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has been selected for screening in CinEast’s Main Competition, where it will run against such European productions as Child’s Pose by Călin Peter Netzer and My Dog Killer by Mira Fornay. The Main Competition films will be judged by jury members Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, Donato Rotunno, Maja Jurić, Bernard Michaux, and Vesna Andonovic.

Women’s Stories

Five films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute will also screen in a special section of the festival entitled ‘Women’s Stories’. This section will feature The Congress by Ari Folman, Imagine by Andrzej Jakimowski, Aglaya by Krisztina Deák, Dzień kobiet (Women’s Day) by Maria Sadowska, and Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) by Bodo Kox.

New Polish Films Supported by the Polish Film Institute

The festival lineup also features several other films supported by the Polish Film Institute: W imię…(In the Name Of…) by Małgorzata Szumowska, Obława (Manhunt) by Marcin Krzyształowicz, Ve stinu (In the Shadow) by David Ondricek, Miłość (Loving) by Sławomir Fabicki, Drogówka (The Traffic Department) by Wojciech Smarzowski, and Pokłosie (Aftermath) by Władysław Pasikowski.

Eryk Lubos and the Łódź-based National Film School in Cinéfocus

This year’s Cinéfocus section of CinEast focuses on actor Eryk Lubos and the works of the Leon Schiller National Film School (PWFTViT) in Łódź, which celebrates its 65th year.

Short Films and Children’s Films

The festival lineup also features a number of Polish short films. Luxembourg audiences will have an opportunity to see six Polish shorts: Sonda o kobietach (Survey About Women) by Mateusz Głowacki, Rogalik by Paweł Ziemilski, Mazurek by Julia Kolberger, Echo by Marcin Filipowicz, Ziegenort by Tomasza Popakul, and Toto by Zbigniew Czapla. Screenings for young audiences will include Bolek i Lolek and Reksio.

Burning Bush and Flying Blind

Audiences will also have an opportunity to see foreign productions by Polish film directors: Burning Bush, a film directed by Agnieszka Holland that has been selected as the Czech Republic’s Oscar® candidate, and Flying Blind, a UK-produced feature directed by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz.

Festival Supported by the Polish Film Institute

Screenings of Polish films at the sixth edition of the CinEast International Film Festival are co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
