The 19th edition of the Hot Docs Film Festival begins on April 26. 189 of the world’s best documentaries will screen in Toronto over the course of eleven days. Among them are two Polish documentary films, both co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Polish Films at Hot Docs
The upcoming festival’s lineup features two Polish films. The short film Co raz zostało zapisane (Written in Ink) by Martin Rath, a student of the National Film School in Łódź, will screen alongside a selection of 28 best films from festivals around the world in the Special Presentations section of Hot Docs, competing for the Best Short Film award and the Audience Award. The second Polish film is the feature-length documentary Polish Illusions by Jacob Dammas and Helge Renner. Polish Illusions will be one of the films screened in the World Showcase. The film was made as a co-production between Poland, Germany and Denmark, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Polish-German Co-Development Fund, and the “Pomerania Film” Western Pomeranian Regional Film Fund.
Polish Films at the Doc Shop
This year’s Hot Docs saw over 2,000 films submitted for consideration. 189 of these were selected for screening, representing 51 countries. This year’s edition of Hot Docs will once again be accompanied by the Doc Shop film market. Representatives of countries from around the world will have an opportunity to see a total of 24 Polish documentary films in the special Polish Docs section. Hot Docs is annually visited by approximately 2,000 representatives of the world documentary filmmaking industry.
The 19th edition of the Toronto-based Hot Docs film festival will run this year from April 26 through May 6. Last year’s edition brought an HBO Documentary Films Emerging Artist Award for Michał Marczak, author of the documentary film Koniec Rosji (At the Edge of Russia).
