Polish Films at Hot Docs

The lineup of this year’s 21st edition of the Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival has been announced. The festival runs from April 24 through May 4, 2014 and features four Polish films.

International Spectrum

The International Spectrum competition lineup includes 13 documentary films, one of which is Walking Under Water, a Polish-German co-production directed by Eliza Kubarska and supported by the Polish Film Institute. Walking Under Water is a story about the last days of the Badjao, a tribe in Borneo who live in harmony with nature and are famous for their exceptional diving skills. The Hot Docs screenings will mark the film’s world premiere.

Love Factually

Another Polish film will screen in the festival’s Love Factually section, dedicated to love and passion. Efekt domina (The Domino Effect) is a documentary film by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski, which was presented at the second edition of Docs to go! at the 53rd Krakow Film Festival. The Domino Effect is a story about the minister of sport of Georgia’s separatist republic of Abkhazia.

Mystery, Myth and Legend

The Mystery, Myth and Legend section of Hot Docs, dedicated to the power of myths and legends, features Fire Followers, a film by Karolina Breguła. Fire Followers is the story of a small town somewhere in the north. Because of its wooden architecture, the town suffered multiple fires over the centuries.

World Showcase 

The lineup of the festival’s World Showcase features Najwyższy (The Supreme), a film by Katarzyna Gondek.

Hot Docs

Hot Docs is North America’s largest documentary film festival and holds an important place in the world of documentary filmmaking. Hot Docs is more than just a festival for documentary films from around the globe; the event also encompasses the Doc Shop film market, as well as a pitching forum, conferences, panel discussions, and special workshops. This year’s Hot Docs audiences will have an opportunity to see 197 documentaries from 43 countries in twelve sections. Almost 2,500 films were submitted for consideration.
