POLISH FILMS AT THE 19TH JIHLAVA FILM FESTIVAL

Mów mi Marianna (Call Me Marianna) by Karolina Bielawska and Badjao. Duchy z morza (Walking Under Water) by Eliza Kubarska, both co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will screen at the 19th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival.

Mów mi Marianna (Call Me Marianna), a film by Karolina Bielawska, will screen in two competitions — ‘Between the Seas’ and ‘First Lights’ for first and second documentary films by emerging filmmakers.
Karolina Bielawska’s film received the Premio Zonta Club Locarno award for a film that promotes social justice at the 68th Locarno International Film Festival. Mów mi Marianna (Call Me Marianna) also received the Golden Horn Award at the 55th Krakow Film Festival, along with three other awards (the Audience Award, the award for Best Producer, and the Maciej Szumowski Award).

Eliza Kubarska’s documentary Badjao. Duchy z morza (Walking Under Water) will screen in Jihlava’s Doc Alliance Selection.

To date, the film has received awards at the 21st Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival in Toronto, the 11th Planete+Doc Festival in Warsaw, at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and in Italy.

The 19th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival runs from October 27 through November 1, 2015.
