Polish Films at the 38th Montreal IFF

Four Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute have been selected for screening at the 38th World Film Festival in Montreal, which runs from August 21 through September 1, 2014.

Jack Strong and Psie Pole (Field of Dogs)

The lineup of the ‘World Greats’ non-competitive section for feature films from around the world includes Jack Strong by Władysław Pasikowski and Psie Pole (Field of Dogs) by Lech Majewski.

Gang Rosenthala (Closer to the Moon)

The ‘Focus on World Cinema’ section features Gang Rosenthala (Closer to the Moon), a Polish-Romanian-Italian-American co-production directed by Nae Caranfil. The film tells the astonishing, humorous and true story of a group of Jewish ‘righteous gangsters,’ who staged the largest robbery in the history of the National Bank of Romania in 1959, for which they later received the death sentence. The film’s co-producer on the Polish side is Agresywna Banda. One of the lead roles is played by Marcin Walewski.

Las cieni (The Shadow Forest)

Las cieni (The Shadow Forest), a feature student film directed by Andrzej Cichocki, produced at the Radio and Television Department of the University of Silesia in Katowice, will screen in the festival’s section for international student films. The film’s protagonist is a poacher who stands face to face with the wolf he’s been hunting, when he suddenly hears gunshots. He notices a group of terrified people running away. Among those running is a young boy, who then gets lost. Even the wolves can sense the imminent danger.

All Polish films screening at the 38th World Film Festival in Montreal have been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
