Polish Films at Zurich FF

Two Polish documentaries co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and a Polish co-production will screen at the 10th Zurich Film Festival, which runs from September 25 through October 5.

Badjao. Duchy z morza (Walking Under Water) in Competition

Eliza Kubarska’s documentary was selected for screening in the international documentary film competition. This story about the last days of the Badjao people of Borneo will compete for festival awards against twelve other projects from around the world. The film has previously received recognition at the Hot Docs festival in Toronto, winning the Special Jury Prize. Polish audiences had an opportunity to see Kubarska’s film at the Planete+Doc festival, where it received the Canon Cinematography Award. 

A Special Screening of 15 stron świata (15 Corners of the World)

Recently awarded at the 67th Locarno IFF, Zuzanna Solakiewicz’s documentary will be shown as one of the festival’s special screenings. 15 stron świata (15 Corners of the World) tells the story of the Polish Radio Experimental Studio, and focuses on Eugeniusz Rudnik – sound engineer, composer, and experimenter. Zurich’s Gala Premieres section will include The Cut, an international co-production directed by Fatih Akin. The film recently screened at the 71st Venice IFF, which closed on September 6.

Polish Films at Past Editions of Zurich IFF

The competition lineup at past editions of the festival featured W sypialni (In a Bedroom) and Płynące wieżowce (Floating Skyscrapers), both films by Tomasz Wasilewski.
