Polish Films Awarded in Marseille

Two Polish films, Sieniawka by Marcin Malaszczak and Świat w budowie (Holy Field Holy War) by Lech Kowalski, have received awards at the FID International FIlm Festival in Marseille.

Awards for Polish Filmmakers

Sieniawka, directed by Marcin Malaszczak, received the award for best documentary debut, while Świat w budowie (Holy Field Holy War), directed by Lech Kowalski, received a total of three awards: the Georges de Beauregard Award, the award of the French Experimental Cinema Network, and the Marseille Espérance Award.

Świat w budowie (Holy Field Holy War)

Świat w budowie (Holy Field Holy War) focuses on the issue of shale gas mining in Poland. Kowalski portrays the residents of the Polish countryside, who are against the construction of a shale gas site in their area. Co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, this documentary is a Polish-French co-production, produced by Revolt Cinema. The film’s screening at the Marseille festival marked its world premiere.

Sieniawka

Marcin Malaszczak’s Sieniawka is a Polish-German co-production. Made using video-art aesthetics, the film tells the story of a journey into the ‘irrational subconscious of mankind’. Stefan (Stefan Szyszka) travels across the post-industrial landscape of no man’s land. His chance encounter with a stranger blurs the line between imagination and reality, while the past and the future become intertwined. The film was produced by Michel Balagué, Marcin Malaszczak, Georg Tiller, and Andreas Louis (DFFB). Sieniawka had its world premiere at the 63rd Berlin IFF, screening in the festival’s Forum section. Sieniawka has also received support from the Polish Film Institute.
