Polish Films Awarded in Romania

Polish films triumphed at the first edition of the “Golden Carpathian” European Film Festival in Ploiești, Romania.

“Golden Carpathian” is a film event dedicated to the cinema of Eastern Europe. This year’s edition ran from August 25 through 28, and featured eight films screening in competition. The jury led by Philip Bergson awarded the Best Director Award to Marcin Wrona for his feature Chrzest (The Christening). The festival audience voted Agnieszka Łukasiak’s Dwa ognie (Between Two Fires) as Best Film. Both films were co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

The director of Romania’s Centrul National al Cinematografie congratulated Polish filmmakers as he announced the festival’s closing gala a truly Polish night. The Ploiești film festival was accompanied by a film market that encouraged co-production networking with potential partners from the region. Representatives of the Polish Film Institute also attended these meetings.
