Polish Films in Canada

November 10 brought the launch of the 41st edition of the Festival du Nouveau Cinema – an international film festival dedicated to the latest trends in world cinema. The festival lineup features several films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

International Competition

One of the 18 competition feature films screening in the Sélection internationale section of the festival is Miłość (Loving) by Sławomir Fabicki. The competition films will be judged by a jury, which has as its members director Luc Bourdon, journalist and former head of Cinémathèque québécoise Robert Daudelin, actress Carole Laure, as well as film critics Élie Castiel, Olivier Lamothe and Jean-Marie Lanlo.

The short film competition features the animated film Co sie dzieje gdy dzieci nie chcą jeść zupy (What Happens When Children Don’t Eat Soup) by Paweł Prewencki. The short film competition section will be judged by jury members Judy Gladstone of the Bravo!FACT foundation for promoting Canadian filmmakers, and director Vanya Rose.

Panorama

The Panorama International section will feature 25 films from around the world, including Z daleka widok jest piękny (It Looks Pretty from a Distance) by Anka and Wilhelm Sasnal. Other films in the Panorama International section include Aglaja (Aglaya) by Krisztina Deak, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and inspired by the book “Why the Child Is Cooking in the Polenta” by Aglaja Veteranyi.
