Polish Films in Consideration

A selection of fifty films in consideration for nominations for this year’s European Film Awards was announced on September 16 at a press conference in Riga. The list includes several Polish titles co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

The Selection Announcement

The list of titles in consideration was announced at a press conference held in Riga, the 2014 European Capital of Culture, which will host the 27th European Film Awards ceremony on December 13. Speakers at the press conference included EFA Chairwoman of the Board Agnieszka Holland, EFA director Marion Döring, and director of the Riga 2014 Foundation Diana Civle.

The Voting Process and Nominations Announcement on November 8

Over the coming weeks, over 3,000 members of the European Film Academy will vote for the films to be nominated for awards consideration. Academy members will select nominees in the following categories: Best European Film, Best European Director, Best European Actor, Best European Actress, and Best European Screenwriter. The results of the vote will be announced on November 8 at the Seville International Film Festival. Nominations in the Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Composer, and Best Sound will be selected by a jury of seven.

Polish Films in Consideration

The list of films consindered by the jury and EFA members includes three Polish films: Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski, Papusza by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, and Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) by Andrzej Wajda. All three films were co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. They will compete against such films as Nymphomaniac – Director’s Cut by Lars von Trier, Locke by Steve Knight, and Frank by Lenny Abrahamson.

Ida in Consideration for EFA Audience Award

Poland’s Academy Award® candidate Ida is also one of six titles nominated for the Audience Award. Voting is open through October 31. The complete list of nominated films and further details about the audience award are available here.
