Polish Films in Cottbus

The competition lineup of the 23rd Cottbus Festival of East European Cinema has been announced. The festival runs from November 5 through November 10, 2013.

Main Competition

This year’s Main Competition for feature films will screen a total of eleven films, including Papusza, a film directed by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Short Feature Competition

One of the ten films selected for screening in the festival’s Short Feature Competition is Psubrat, a film directed by Maria Zbąska and produced by Wajda Studio and Munk Studio. This film was also supported by the Polish Film Institute.

U-18 German-Polish Youth Film Competition

The U-18 German-Polish Youth Film Competition features Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues) by Katarzyna Rosłaniec, Zdjęcie (The Photograph) by Maciej Adamek and Leszczu (Chicken) by Aleksandra Terpińska. All three films were co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Polish Horizons

The lineup of this year’s Cottbus festival also features a section entitled Polish Horizons, which will showcase three films: Flying Blind by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, Płynące wieżowce (Floating Skyscrapers) by Tomasz Wasilewski and Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) by Bodo Kox. The latter two films were co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

The 23rd Edition of the Festival

The 23rd edition of the Cottbus festival will launch on November 5 and run for five days. This festival is one of the key film events dedicated to promoting Eastern European cinema. Cottbus audiences have an opportunity to see a selection of the best feature, documentary and animated films from Eastern Europe. At last year’s edition of the festival, Polish films received a total of five festival awards.
