Polish Films in Gothenburg

The lineup of the upcoming 36th edition of the Gothenburg International Film Festival, which launches on January 25, features several films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Film Debuts from Poland

Maria Sadowska’s Dzień kobiet (Women’s Day), co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will screen in GIFF’s special section for films by first-time filmmakers. This section will also screen W sypialni (In a Bedroom), the feature debut from director Tomasz Wasilewski. The complete lineup of 39 films in this section also features Now, Forager: A Film About Love and Fungi (Polish title: Tam, gdzie rosną grzyby), an American-Polish co-production directed by Jason Cortlund and Julia Halperin.

Wirtualna wojna (Man at War)

One of the 24 films screening in the Documentary category is Wirtualna wojna (Man at War), a feature documentary by Jacek Bławut. Man at War will screen alongside such films as Winter Nomads by Manuel von Stürler (which screened at last year’s Berlinale), London: The Modern Babylon by Julien Temple, or the Watch Docs award-winning Anton’s Right Here by Lyubov Arkus.

‘Fem Kontinenter’ Section

Imagine by Andrzej Jakimowski, the winning film at last year’s Warsaw Film Festival, will also screen in Gothenburg. Imagine will screen in the ‘Fem Kontinenter’ section of GIFF, along with 23 other European films. The Austria Focus section of the festival will also feature Ci, którzy żyją i umierają (The Dead and the Living), a Polish-Austrian co-production directed by Barbara Albert and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
