Polish Films in Mar del Plata
The 26th edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival launched on November 5 in Argentina. The festival lineup features several Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The festival runs through November 13.
International Competition
The International Competition jury members include Jacek Bromski, Polish director and head of the Polish Filmmakers Association, alongside jury members from Chile, Mexico, Argentina, and the United States. The festival’s twelve competition titles include In Darkness, the latest feature from Agnieszka Holland. El Premio by Paula Markovitch, with photography by Wojciech Staroń, an international co-production between Mexico, France, Poland, and Germany, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will also compete for the festival’s Astor de Oro grand prize.
Poland In Focus
The organizers of the 26th Mar del Plata International Film Festival dedicated one of the festival sections to showcasing the latest Polish films. Mar del Plata audiences will have an opportunity to see six new Polish films, including Kret (The Mole) by Rafael Lewandowski, and Róża (Rosa) by Wojciech Smarzowski.

Essential Killing a Winner
It is worth mentioning that Essential Killing by Jerzy Skolimowski, co-finaced by the Polish Film Institute, received the festival’s grand prize (Astor de Oro) at last year’s edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. The award for Best Actor (Astor de Plata) went to Vincent Gallo, who played the lead part in Skolimowski’s Essential Killing, portraying the Afghani refugee named Mohammed. Essential Killing also received the award of the Association of Argentinean Film Critics.
