Polish Films in Trieste

January 17 will mark the launch of the 24th edition of the Trieste International Film Festival. The festival lineup features films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

W sypialni (In a Bedroom) in Main Competition

W sypialni (In a Bedroom) by Tomasz Wasilewski will compete for the grand prize in the feature length category. The Main Competition lineup features In a Bedroom as well as seven other films, including Klip (Clip) by Maja Miloš and V tumane (In the Fog) by Sergiei Loznitsa.

Documentary Film Competition

One of the films selected to compete amongst the ten most interesting documentaries will be Pomorskie iluzje (Polish Illussions) by Jacob Dammas. The film previously screened at such festivals as Karlovy Vary and Hot Docs. Last year’s Trieste IFF documentary competition also featured two Polish documentary films: Kołysanka z Phnom Penh (Phnom Penh Lullaby) by Paweł Kloc and Kiedyś będziemy szczęśliwi (We Will Be Happy One Day) by Paweł Wysoczański.

Animated Films from Poland

The section of Trieste IFF that showcases the latest accomplishments in the field of animation features 13 titles, two of which are Polish films. Audiences in Trieste will have an opportunity to see Zgrzyt (Friction) by Michał Mróz and Lucky Day Forever by Alek Wasilewski. Last year’s Trieste lineup also featured several Polish animations, including Dobro, piękno i prawda (The Good, Beauty, and Truth) by Balbina Bruszewska, Dr Charakter przedstawia (Dr Character Presents) by Piotr Dumała, and the highly acclaimed Świteź (The Lost Town of Świteź) by Kamil Polak.

When East Meets West Forum

The When East Meets West forum is an industry event for producers and professional filmmakers from Eastern Europe looking for co-producers; every year, they are invited to meet with representatives of the film industry from Italy, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. This year’s edition will feature 22 projects from 11 countries. Poland’s representative will be the latest film from director Greg Zgliński, currently known under the working title Ashdriver.
