Polish Films in Varna

Two films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, Bez wstydu (Shameless) by Filip Marczewski and Miłość (Loving) by Sławomir Fabicki, will screen at the ‘Love Is Folly’ International Film Festival, which runs from August 30 through September 7, 2013 in Varna.

Bez wstydu (Shameless)

Bez wstydu (Shameless) is the coming-of-age story of a forbidden love, an erotic fascination between brother and sister, and the search for love. Upon returning to his hometown, Tadek (Mateusz Kościukiewicz) discovers that his beloved sister Anka (Agnieszka Grochowska) is having an affair with a married man (Maciej Marczewski). Tadek’s jealousy of the respected businessman with political ambitions gradually transforms into an obsession that goes against all moral and social norms of the local community.

Feature Debut by Filip Marczewski

Bez wstydu (Shameless) marks the feature debut of director Filip Marczewski, based on his student film Melodrama, which was nominated for an Oscar in 2006. The film was written by Grzegorz Łoszewski and produced by Akson Studio. Marczewski’s debut is one of 13 films selected for screening in Main Competition at the 37th Gdynia Film Festival later this year. Released theatrically in Poland on July 20, 2012, the film had its international premiere on July 2, 2013 at the 47th Karlovy Vary IFF, screening in the ‘East of the West’ competition. Bez wstydu (Shameless) was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Miłość (Loving)

Miłość (Loving) tells the story of the complicated relationship of a married couple of thirty-year-olds who appear to have everything they need to be happy. Maria has a successful career, Tomek is also satisfied with his job. They are decorating their new home and expecting a baby. It seems like nothing could shake their relationship. But Maria’s secret is a traumatic experience that not only changes her, but also impacts the relationship with her husband. The love of these two people is put to a long and straining test.

Starring Kijowska and Dorociński

Miłość (Loving) was produced by Odeon Rybarczyk Productions and co-produced by Anagram Film. The film was written by Sławomir Fabicki and Marek Pruchniewski, and lensed by Piotr Szczepański. The lead roles were played by Julia Kijowska and Marcin Dorociński, with supporting performances by Adam Woronowicz, Agata Kulesza, Dorota Kolak, and Marian Dziędziel. Miłość (Loving) was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and released theatrically in Poland on March 15, 2013.
