Polish Films Nominated in Slovakia

The nominations for this year’s “Sun in the Net” (“Slnko v Sieti”) Slovakian Film Awards of the Slovakian Film and Television Academy have been announced. Its members selected the award nominees from among 16 feature films, 15 feature-length documentaries, five shorts and twelve animated films.

 

Polish filmmakers and co-productions are among this year’s nominees.

 

Andrzej Wajda received a Best Foreign Film nomination for his feature Katyń. Another film nominated in this category is The Karamazov Brothers (Karamazovi), a Polish-Czech co-production directed by Petr Zelenka.

 

Robert Więckiewicz received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in Soul at Peace (Pokoj v duši) by Vlado Balko. The film itself is also a candidate for the main award in the Best Film of the Year category. The film was scored by Polish composer Michał Lorenc, who also received a nomination for Best Film Music.

 

Three nominations for the “Sun in the Net” awards went to the Polish-Czech-Hungarian-Slovakian co-production Janosik. The True Story (Janosik. Prawdziwa historia) by Agnieszka Holland. The film was nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Makeup.

 

The Slovakian Film Awards ceremony will be held on April 27 in Bratislava. The complete list of nominated films and individuals is available at Film New Europe.
