Polish Films Win Awards in the USA

Róża (Rosa) by Wojciech Smarzowski and Jeż Jerzy (Jeż Jerzy: The Movie) by Wojtek Wawszczyk, Jakub Tarkowski and Tomasz Leśniak, two films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received awards at the 15^th Brooklyn Film Festival in New York.

Award for Best Cinematography

The 18-member jury of American film critics, festival programmers and filmmakers, granted the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography to Piotr Sobociński Jr., who was recognized for his work on Róża (Rosa) by Wojciech Smarzowski.

Wojciech Smarzowski’s previous film Dom zły (Dark House) had also been recognized at the Brooklyn Film Festival, winning the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement for a Producer at the festival’s 13^th edition in 2010.

Spirit Award for Polish Animated Film

Jeż Jerzy (Jeż Jerzy: The Movie) by Wojtek Wawszczyk, Jakub Tarkowski, and Tomasz Leśniak, received the Spirit Award for a Feature Narrative. The Spirit Awards are presented to films “in which the festival recognizes its own spirit.” This marks the first international award for the creators of Jeż Jerzy. The film screened at various film festivals abroad, including Karlovy Vary, Annecy, and Stuttgart.

The lineup of the Brooklyn Film Festival featured six Polish feature, documentary, and animated films.
