"Polish Illusions" at Festivals

Pomorskie iluzje (Polish Illusions), directed by Jacob Dammas and Helge Renner and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, screened at the Tempo International Documentary Film Festival in Stockholm, which ran from March 5 through March 10, 2013. The film will also screen in the DOCU/LIFE competition at the Docudays International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Kiev, which runs from March 22 through March 28.

Polish Illusions in Darłowo

Retired American helicopter pilot Mark Buller moves to the town of Darłowo on the Baltic coast, looking for a home for his ever-growing collection of military vehicles and find the last missing piece: a wife. A young man named Michał Niewczas (or “Mike”, as he prefers to be called) becomes Buller’s right hand and helps him make his dream golden days a reality. On the other side of town, 82-year-old local illusionist Jan Konstantynow is far from thinking about retirement and continues his efforts to remain on stage, where he has done his magic for nearly half a century. Will magic and reality help these three men find their place in life?

International Co-Production Supported by the Polish Film Institute

Polish Illusions, produced by Graniza, has already screened at film festivals in Trieste, Karlovy Vary, Leipzig, CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, Hot Docs in Toronto, the Krakow Film Festival, RegioFun, and Off Cinema in Poznan. The film was made as a co-production between Poland, Germany and Denmark, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, Medienboard Berlin – Brandenburg, the “Pomerania Film” Western Pomeranian Film Fund, and the Danish Film Institute/Filmworkshop.
