Polish Project at Trieste IFF Forum

The list of projects that qualified for next year’s When East Meets West co-production forum of the Trieste IFF has been announced. Among selected projects is the latest feature by Polish director Greg Zgliński. The When East Meets West forum runs from January 21 through January 23, 2013.

Polish Project Among 22 Selected Films

The When East Meets West forum is open to producers and professional filmmakers from Eastern Europe looking for co-producers; every year, they are invited to meet with representatives of the film industry from Italy, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Next year’s edition will feature 22 projects from 11 countries. Poland will be represented by the latest film from director Greg Zgliński, currently known under its working title Ashdriver.

Contemporary Comedy

The film’s producer Łukasz Dzięcioł of Opus Films told the Polish Film Institute: “We are very happy to see our project at When East Meets West. We are currently focusing on finding a co-producer from a German-speaking country.” He also revealed a few basic details about the project: “The latest film by Greg Zgliński is a comedy in the spirit of such films as Sideways by Alexander Payne or Little Miss Sunshine by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. It will be a contemporary story set mostly in Poland.”

Ashdriver will compete for the WEMW Development Award, which will be presented in Trieste for the first time at the upcoming edition of the festival by jury members Nikolaj Nikitin (Filmplus), Matthieu Darras (Torino Film Lab) and Kristina Trapp (EAVE).
