Polish Short Films in Tampere

March 6 will mark the launch of the 43rd edition of the Tampere International Short Film Festival in Finland. The festival lineup features a selection of Polish films.

The Tampere festival, organized annually since 1969, is one of Europe’s top short film festivals. Every year, festival audiences have an opportunity to enjoy approximately 500 short films in two competition sections – the Finnish competition and the international competition. The festival is also entitled to submit its candidate for the awards of the European Film Academy. In 2009, this nomination went to Szklana pułapka (Glass Trap) by Paweł Ferdek.

International Competition

This year, over 4,500 films were submitted to the international competition; 65 of these were selected for screening. Poland has a strong representation at this year’s festival, with the following four short films screening in competition:

• Co się dzieje, gdy dzieci nie chcą jeść zupy (What Happens When Children Don’t Eat Soup) by Paweł Prewencki;
• Matka (Mother) by Łukasz Ostalski;
• Nasza zima zła (Our Bad Winter) by Grzegorz Zariczny;
• Obóz (Camp) by Tomasz Jeziorski

Polish Animations

The festival lineup also features a large showcase of Polish animated films from 1958-2011. In addition to classic films by Jan Lenica and Zbigniew Rybczyński, Tampere audiences will have an opportunity to see films by Tomasz Bagiński, Piotr Karwas and Marek Skrobecki.
