Silver Eye Award Nominations
This year’s Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival launches on October 24. The festival framework includes the tenth edition of the East Silver Market, which will feature a substantial number of Polish films, 15 of which have been nominated for the Silver Eye Award.
Silver Eye Award
The Silver Eye Awards have been presented annually at the East Silver Market since 2009. Films screening at the market are divided into three categories: short, mid-length and feature-length documentaries. The Silver Eye awards ceremony traditionally takes place during the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival. This year’s nominees include a total of 15 documentaries made by Polish filmmakers, including several films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

- Moja Wola (A Dream in the Making) by Bartosz M. Kowalski;
- Ojciec i syn (Father and Son) by Paweł Łoziński;
- Fire-Followers by Karolina Breguła;
- Joanna by Aneta Kopacz;
- Zabójca z lubieżności (Lust Killer) by Marcin Koszałka;
- Czasem śnię, że latam (Sometimes I Dream I’m Flying) by Aneta Popiel-Machnicka;
- We Film the People!/Nous filmons le peuple! by Ania Szczepańska;
- Będziesz legendą, człowieku (You’re Gonna Be a Legend, Man) by Marcin Koszałka
A number of other Polish films will also participate in the East Silver market, including Przerwany sen (Broken Dream) by Grzegorz Milko, El Sueño by Jakub Łubniewski and Mikołaj Molenda, Niebiańskie jezioro (God’s Lake) by Diana Aszyk, Miłość bez ustawki (I Love a Hooligan) by Kamil Król, I Want (No) Reality /Needcompany on Life and Art by Ana Brzezińska, Wirtualna wojna (Man at War) by Jacek Bławut, Matka 24h (Mother 24/7) by Marcin Janos Krawczyk, Sonda o kobietach (Survey About Women) by Mateusz Głowacki, Ojciec i syn w podróży (Father and Son on a Journey) by Marcel Łoziński, and Madame Tyson by Edward Porembny.
Polish Winners of Silver Eye Awards
In the past, Polish films enjoyed a strong presence at the East Silver Market. Many of these films also received the Silver Eye Awards. In 2009, Sześć tygodni (Six Weeks) by Marcin Janos Krawczyk won the Silver Eye Award in the short film category, while Bartek Konopka’s Królik po berlińsku (Rabbit a la Berlin) won in the mid-length category. Special mention in the feature documentary category went to Bocznica (The Sidetrack) by Anna Kazejak. A year later, the winner of the Silver Eye Award in the short film category was Takie życie (That’s Life) by Daniel Zieliński, while Michał Marczak’s Koniec Rosji (At the Edge of Russia) won the award in the feature documentary category. Special mention went to Praca Maszyn (The Work of the Machines) by Michał Madracki, Maciej Madracki and Gilles Lepore, and to Krajobraz nizinny z kołyską (Plain Landscape with a Cradle) by Arkadiusz Biedrzycki. Last year, Rafał Samusik’s documentary Wytnij-Wklej (Cut-Paste) received the Silver Eye Award for in the short film category, while Paweł Wysoczański’s Kiedyś będziemy szczęśliwi (We Will Be Happy One Day) received the award for best mid-length documentary.
