"Sztuka znikania" at Visions du Réel

Sztuka znikania (The Art of Disappearing), directed by Bartosz Konopka and Piotr Rosołowski, will screen in the International Mid-Length Film Competition at the Visions du Réel International Documentary Film Festival in Nyon, Switzerland. The festival runs from April 19 through April 26, 2013.

Sztuka znikania (The Art of Disappearing)

The film tells the unknown story of Amon Frémon, a Haitian voodoo priest who visited communist Poland in 1980, invited by Jerzy Grotowski. Amon observes the events during the times of martial law and, much like Adam Mickiewicz did in his work “Dziady”, calls upon the spirits of his ancestors. He performs a voodoo ceremony to free the Poles from the forces of evil. A battle ensues, in which the dead and the living join forces in their common struggle. The spirit of Polish romanticism blends with Haitian Loa, just like it did 200 years ago during the great revolution in Haiti.

Presentation at ‘Docs to go!’

The film was directed by Bartosz Konopka and Piotr Rosołowski, and produced by Otter Films and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. Sztuka znikania (The Art of Disappearing) was one of the projects showcased during the first edition of Docs to go! – a presentation of Polish documentary films in post-production. Docs to go! is a joint initiative of the Polish Film Institute and the Krakow Film Festival.

Visions du Réel

Visions du Réel in Nyon is one of Europe’s top film festivals for documentary films; every year it is attended by directors, producers and film professionals from around the world. The festival is also home to a series of industry events, including a co-production market, two pitching sessions (Pitching du Réel and Pitching RTS ‘Perspectives d’un Doc’), seminars and panel discussions within the framework of the ‘Doc Think Tank’ programme, series of meetings on sales and distribution (‘Docs in Progress’ programme), and a digital video library.
