„The Balcony Movie” awarded at the Doc Edge festival

Paweł Łoziński’s documentary „The Balcony Movie”, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, was appreciated by the jury of the Doc Edge festival in New Zealand, winning in the „We are the World” category. Since its premiere, the image has been awarded many times – only in 2022 at festivals in Biarritz, Trieste, Brazil and Zagreb.

Doc Edge takes place on the internet and in several New Zealand cities and is dedicated to documentary cinema. The festival presents the most interesting Polish productions as well as important and award-winning films from around the world. The event is already renowned and qualifies for the awards of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The world premiere of „The Balcony Movie” took place in 2021 in Locarno, where it won the prestigious Grand Prix Semaine de la critique / Prix SRG SSR. The Polish premiere of the image took place at the Millennium Docs Against Gravity (audience distinction and award). The document was also presented i.a. in the competition section of the DOK Leipzig festival, as well as at festivals in Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Australia and Georgia.

Description of the plot and the creators of the film

Can anyone be a movie hero? Can the world be closed in one frame? Director Paweł Łoziński watches people from his balcony. They pass smiling, sad, pensive, staring at the phone, young and old. They are residents of the district, or random visitors, ordinary passers-by. The author accosts, asks questions, talks about how they cope with life. By standing there with the camera for over two years, he created a place for dialogue, a secular confessional where everyone can stop and tell other people about themselves. The heroes carry riddles and secrets, they cannot be easily pigeonholed. Every human story is unique and life is unimaginable. „Balcony Film” is a radical return to the beginnings of cinema, when people came to the camera. Perhaps it is enough to stay longer to see more.

Together with Piasek & Wójcik, he is responsible for its editing, and with Franciszek Kozłowski for the sound. The music was created by Jan Duszyński, and the producers of the image are Paweł Łoziński and Agnieszka Mankiewicz. The production manager is Zofia Kujawska.
