The Congress

After announcing the list of 46 titles eligible for this year’s European Film Awards, the European Film Academy presented three feature animated films in the running for the award for Best European Animation. One of the selected titles was The Congress, a film directed by Ari Folman and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

The selection of best animated films was made by a committee. Members included producer Bruno Chatelin (France), producer Marek Rozenbaum (Israel), producer Manuel Cristóbal (Spain), as well as two journalists: Daniel Couvreur (Belgium) and Lisa Nesselson (France), representatives of CARTOON, the European Association of Animation Film.

The two films nominated alongside Ari Folman’s The Congress are: Jasmine, a French production directed by Alain Ughetto, and Pinocchio by Enzo d’Alo (a co-production between Italy, France and Belgium with contribution from Luxembourg). Orange Studio, a Polish animation studio based in Bielsko-Biała, was involved in the making of both The Congress and Pinocchio. All three nominated films will be sent to 2,900 members of the European Film Academy. The winner of the award for Best European Animation will be announced at the awards ceremony in Berlin on December 7.
