„The Cracks” project at the 55th IFF in Karlovy Vary

„The Cracks” by Magdalena Gajewska, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, is among the titles selected for the 7th edition of Future Frames as part of the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary.

The European Film Promotion program aims to draw the attention of film industry specialists and journalists to young European filmmakers. During Industry Days at the IFF in Karlovy Vary, ten promising directors will present their achievements to date in film schools, as well as take part in the most interesting industry events and master classes prepared especially for them.

Project „The Cracks” directed by Magdalena Gajewska from the Warsaw Film School was proposed by the Polish Film Institute. Final selection was made by the KVIFF Artistic Director Karel Och and his program team. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Czech Republic and is considered the most important film event in Central and Eastern Europe among filmmakers, distributors, sales representatives and journalists.

The plot of the film

„The Cracks” is a story about a thirty-year-old Teresa, a young mother who, after giving birth, falls into postpartum depression. Together with her husband Tadeusz, they decide to temporarily return to Teresa’s house in a small town.

In her hometown, Teresa unexpectedly runs into her old love, Anna. Strong emotions revive in both women. From that moment on, the image of depression is intertwined with the image of desire and fascination. Teresa is left with a difficult choice – should she stay with her husband or start a new life with Anna?
