„The Dress” won the Atlanta Film Festival

Co-financed by the Polish Film Institute the film „The Dress” written and directed by Tadeusz Łysiak won the Best Narrative Short Award at the Atlanta Film Festival. This event means that production by Warsaw Film School has a chance to qualify for the Oscars race next year.

The Atlanta Film Festival is one of the largest and longest-running festival in the US, which discover hundreds of new independent, international, animated, documentary, and short films. This year there were selected from 8000+ submissions from all over the world. 45th edition took part between April 22 to May 2 in hybrid formula, online screenings as well as drive-in cinema.

The film has it’s premiere at the 60th Krakow Film Festival. It has already been in the official selection of such prestigious festivals in Karlovy Vary, Odense, Clermont-Ferrand, Moscow and the polish festivals: Kameralne Lato in Radom and Młodzi i Film in Koszalin. The film received the award for the Best Student Short Film at IN THE PALACE Short Film Festival, won Bengaluru International Short Film Festival in the Let’s Include category and got the Grand Prize Best Actress for Anna Dzieduszycka at Rhode Island International Film Festival.

The plot of the film and creators

„The Dress” tells the story of Julia, working in a roadside motel, whose life changes when she meets a handsome truck driver. Long-hidden desires make themselves felt. But this is not just the story of a woman meeting a man. Julia is physically different from the people around her, she is a person with short stature, which is why she struggles with rejection, loneliness and stigmatization. „The Dress” is a story about longing for normality, the need to meet the universal needs of closeness and warmth.

Starring by: Anna Dzieduszycka, Dorota Pomykała, Szymon Piotr Warszawski. Andrzej Glazer and Lea Oleksiak. The film’s editor is Mariusz Gos. The production was supervised by Wojciech Saramonowicz. Music by Jan Ignacy Królikowski and cinematography by Konrad Bloch.
