Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) a film directed by Bodo Kox and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, won the top prize at the 24th Mediawave Music and Film Festival in Hungary.

Polish Production Takes Top Prize

Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) received the Best Film Award. Director Bodo Kox was a guest of this year’s edition of the festival. Hungarian audiences had an opportunity to see several other Polish films, including Darling by Izabela Plucińska, Łaźnia (Baths) by Tomasz Ducki, Plaża (Beach) by Paweł Prewencki, Danse macabre by Małgorzata Rżanek, Soliści by Anna Bajjou, Odwiedziny by Matej Bobrik, Kiedy będę ptakiem by Monika Pawluczuk, and Abu Haraz by Maciej Drygas.

A Film by Bodo Kox

The film was written and directed by Bodo Kox (author of Nie panikuj, Księżycowa rzeka, and Sobowtór). The lead roles were played by Magdalena Różańska, Piotr Głowacki and Wojciech Mecwaldowski, with supporting performances by Eryk Lubos, Magdalena Popławska, Olga Bołądź, and Marcin Kowalczyk. The film was lensed by Arkadiusz Tomiak and scored by Joanna Halszka Sokołowska and Filip Zawada.

A Film Supported by the Polish Film Institute

Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) was produced by WFDiF, co-produced by Canal+ Polska, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The film was released theatrically in Poland on June 14, 2013. Distribution in Poland is handled by Kino Świat.

Awards at Film Festivals in Poland and Abroad

Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) has received a number of awards at film festivals in Poland and abroad. In 2013, the film received the award for Best Polish Film at Camerimage. At Koszalin’s ‘Young and Cinema’ festival, Wojciech Mecwaldowski received the Amber Award for Best Actor, while the film received the awards of the youth jury and the film critics’ prize. At the Prowincjonalia festival in Września, the film received the Jańcio Wodnik grand prize, as well as the awards for Best Cinematography (Arkadiusz Tomiak) and Best Actress (Magdalena Różańska, voted the discovery of the festival). At the 27th Tarnów Film Awards, Bodo Kox’s feature received the special jury prize and the youth jury prize. Bodo Kox himself received the Janusz Morgenstern ‘Perspektywa’ Award and the 2014 Eagle Polish Film Award for Discovery of the Year. Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) also won the eleventh edition of the Tofifest festival and received the audience award at the 18th Cinergia European Film Forum. International awards include the Silver Atlas Award and the youth jury prize at the 14th Arras IFF in France and the Award for Best Foreign Film at the Rome International Film Festival.
