"THE HERE AFTER" NOMINATED FOR THE SWEDISH FILM AWARDS

Magnus von Horn’s feature debut The Here After, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has been nominated for the Swedish Film Awards in four categories.

The Swedish Film Awards have been presented annually since 1964. The awards are handed out by a 36-member jury made up of industry professionals.

The Here After in the Running for Sweden’s Guldbaggen Awards

Magnus von Horn’s The Here After has been nominated for the Guldbaggen Swedish Film Awards in the following categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Ulrik Munther), and Best Supporting Actor (Mats Blomgren). The film is a co-production between Poland, Sweden and France, and marks the feature debut for both director Magnus von Horn and producer Mariusz Włodarski.

The project had been developed within Passion to Market, a series of workshops for graduates of three European film schools: the Łódź Film School, the UK’s National Film and Television School, and La Fémis in Paris. These workshops are co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The Here After had its world premiere at the Cannes IFF, screening in Directors’ Fortnight. At the 40th Gdynia Film Festival, the film received awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Editing (award for Agnieszka Glińska, editor of The Here After as well as Jerzy Skolimowski’s 11 Minutes).

John is released from a juvenile detention centre and wants a fresh start. But in the small community to which he now returns, his crime has been neither forgiven nor forgotten. John’s presence brings out the worst in people; a lynch is not unlikely. Feeling abandoned by old friends and the people he loves, John begins to lose hope. The aggression that once landed him in prison begins to build up again. Unable to leave his past behind, John decides to face it.

Another Nomination for Magnus von Horn

In 2012, Magnus von Horn’s short feature Bez śniegu (Without Snow) was nominated for the Best Short Film award. This film has also been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, and received awards at the 36th Gdynia Film Festival and the 51st Krakow Film Festival. Bez śniegu (Without Snow) also screened at the Locarno IFF.

The Swedish Film Awards ceremony will take place on January 18, 2016 in Stockholm.
