"The Mole" in Czech Cinemas

Kret (The Mole), directed by Rafael Lewandowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has been released theatrically in the Czech Republic.

Rafael Lewandowski’s Kret (The Mole) was released theatrically in the Czech Republic on February 28. The film’s Czech title is Krycí jméno Krtek. Distribution in the Czech Republic is handled by Film Europe. The film’s Polish distributor is Kino Świat. Kret (The Mole) was released in Polish cinemas on August 5, 2011. In 2012, the film was also released in France.

Rafael Lewandowski’s feature is the story of 30-year-old Paweł who runs a company with his father, dealing in importing used clothing from France to Poland. On his way home from a business trip, Paweł notices a photo of his father on the cover of a popular tabloid newspaper. Zygmunt, a noted Solidarity activist recognized for his struggle against communism, is suddenly accused by the paper of being an informant for the communist secret service.

 

Film by First-Time Director, Co-Financed by the Polish Film Institute

Kret (The Mole) is the feature debut from director Rafael Lewandowski. The film was produced by Metro Films, and lensed by Piotr Rosołowski. The lead roles were played by Marian Dziędziel and Borys Szyc, with appearances by Magdalena Czerwińska, Wojciech Pszoniak, and Sławomir Orzechowski. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Success at Film Festivals in Poland and Abroad

Kret (The Mole) had its Polish premiere at the 36th Gdynia Film Festival, screening in Main Competition. Marian Dziędziel received the award for Best Supporting Actor. Kret (The Mole) has also received recognition at film festivals abroad. Borys Szyc received the Best Actor award at the 36th Montreal IFF. At the Arras festival in France, the film received the Audience Award and Award of the French Association of Film Critics. Rafael Lewandowski also won the 2012 Paszport Polityki award in the Film category.
