"The Mole" in French Cinemas

Kret (The Mole) by Rafael Lewandowski will have its theatrical release in France on September 12, 2012. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Kret (The Mole) by Rafael Lewandowski, made as a co-production between France and Poland, will be released in French theatres on September 12. The film’s French title is La Dette (The Debt). Distribution in France is handled by Fondivina Films, whose slate of previous releases includes Wszystko co kocham (All That I Love) by Jacek Borcuch.

Gala Premiere in Paris

The film’s French premiere gala screening attended by the filmmakers took place on September 6 at the Le Balzak cinema in Paris. The event was held under the honorary patronage of Poland’s Ambassador to France, Mr. Tomasz Orłowski, who was in attendance at the premiere. The Mole will screen in four cinemas across Paris. The film’s Polish distributor is Kino Świat, and the Polish theatrical release was on August 5, 2011.

Kret (The Mole)

Rafael Lewandowski’s feature is the story of 30-year-old Paweł, who runs a company with his father, importing second-hand clothing from France to Poland. On the return journey from one of their business trips, Paweł notices a photo of his father on the cover of a popular tabloid newspaper. Zygmunt, Paweł’s father was a hero of the Solidarity movement, renowned for his fight against communism. Now he is accused by the newspaper of having collaborated with the communist secret service.

Debut Film Co-Financed by the Polish Film Institute

Kret (The Mole) is the feature debut from director Rafael Lewandowski, produced by Metro Films. The film was lensed by Polish cinematographer Piotr Rosołowski. The lead roles are played by Marian Dziędziel (Zygmunt) and Borys Szyc (Paweł). The film also features performances by Magdalena Czerwińska, Wojciech Pszoniak and Sławomir Orzechowski. Kret (The Mole) was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Success at Film Festivals in Poland and Abroad

The Polish premiere of Kret (The Mole) took place at the 36th Gdynia Film Festival, where the film screened in Main Competition. In Gdynia, Marian Dziędziel received the award for Best Supporting Actor, but the film was also recognized at film festivals abroad. At the 36th Montreal International Film Festival, Borys Szyc received the Best Actor award, while the film itself received the Audience Award and the award of the French Association of Film Critics at the Arras Film Festival in France. Rafael Lewandowski was also the winner in the Film category of this year’s edition of the “Paszporty” award, handed out annually by Polityka magazine.
