„The Stone” with the Grand Prix of the festival in South Korea

Co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, „The Stone” directed by Bartosz Kozera won the Grand Prix at the International Short Film Festival in Jeonju, South Korea. This picture produced by the Munk Studio – SFP is a morality play about the miraculous recovery of a nun and its unexpected consequences.

Organized since 2018, the international film festival in Jeonju is an event presenting the most interesting short films from around the world. The theme of this edition was the concern for human spirituality in difficult, pandemic times.

The award at the festival in South Korea is not the first award for a production directed by Bartosz Kozera. The film has already won the first prize at this year’s Film and Art Festival “Dwa Brzegi” in Kazimierz Dolny, the Golden Grape of the Lubuskie Film Summer in Łagów and four statuettes at the Gosh! Film Festival in Paris (for the best film, director, screenwriter and special award “Cinéma des Potes”). Broad Polish audiences will be able to watch the awarded production on October 15 on TVN Fabuła.

The plot and the filmmakers

The story told in „The Stone” begins at the point where a young, disabled sister Zofia accidentally touches a stone lying in the park. Moments later, she unexpectedly regains use of her legs. The superiors of the Monastery decide to make the Vatican recognize this event as a miracle.

The film features, among others Irena Melcer, Katarzyna Herman, Andrzej Walden, Andrzej Dębski and Krzysztof Materna. For Bartosz Kozera, „The Stone” is a directorial debut. The cinematography for the film is the work of Tomasz Gajewski, the set design was created by Agnieszka Małgorzata Bąk, and the costumes were designed by Kamila Zabłocka. The music was written by Hubert Zemler, and Magdalena Chowanska was responsible for editing. „The Stone” was realized as part of the „30 Minutes: program. The Munk Studio operating at the Polish Filmmakers Association was responsible for the production of the film. The producers are Ewa Jastrzębska and Jerzy Kapuściński, the executive producer – Wiola Łabędź (No Drama Production), and the co-producers are: TVN, Coloroffon, Halo Studio and MX35.
