„The Zone of Interest” wins big at Los Angeles Film Critics Awards and Agnieszka Holland gets an Achievement Award

“The Zone Of Interest” – a haunting and spellbinding feature film by Jonathan Glazer has received four awards during the Los Angeles Film Critics Awards. The film, co-financed by Polish Film Institute, has received the honors in top categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Performance and Best Musical Score. During the same ceremony Agnieszka Holland was awarded the Career Achievement Award.

“The Zone of Interest” by Jonathan Glazer has been awarded four major accolades during the Los Angeles Critics Awards 2023. The film, which is a co-production between US, UK and Poland, has received four major awards. The film was titled the Best Picture of the year and the director, Jonathan Glazer, was called the Best Director. The film’s score was named Best Musical Score. The critic’s association made a special note that the recognition goes not only to the composer Mica Levi, but also to sound designer Johnnie Burn, for the harrowing and ever-present sound.

Moreover German actress Sandra Huller went home with an award for best performance. Worth noting that Huller’s win was for both of her groundbreaking roles – in “The Zone of Interest” and “The Anatomy of A Fall” by Justine Triet. The award was given ax aequo to Emma Stone for her role in “Poor Things” by Yorgos Lanthimos.

Polish director Agnieszka Holland has received a special Career Achievement Award during that same night. The Jury recognized her  input to the language of international cinema.
