"Venice" and "Little Rose" in Montreal

Two Polish films will screen at this year’s Montreal World Film Festival. The 34th edition of this film event starts on August 26. The Montreal World Film Festival is North America’s only A-class film festival.

Wenecja (Venice) by Jan Jakub Kolski will have its world premiere in the World Competition. The Polish feature will be one of twenty films screening in competition, alongside films from Belgium, Japan, Mexico, and Germany. The world competition jury includes Danish director Bille August (chairman of the jury), Canadian actress Anne-Marie Cadieux, Egyptian filmmaker Marwan Hamed, and French filmmaker Édouard Molinaro.

Różyczka (Little Rose) by Jan Kidawa-Błoński will screen in the Hors Concours (out of competition) section of the festival, alongside latest projects by such directors as Koji Wakamatsu, Zhang Yimou, Otar Iosseliani, Bertrand Tavernier, and Carlos Saura.

The Montreal World Film Festival also screens documentary films, short films, and student films. The Focus on World Cinema section of the festival will include the latest projects of filmmakers from Kenya, Hungary, Georgia, Germany, and Turkey. The Tributes section of the festival will include films by Iranian director Jafar Panahi.

The festival’s opening film is Route 132 by Louis Belanger, while the closing film is The Princess of Monpesier – the latest project by Bertrand Tavernier. This year’s master class will be led by Gerard Depardieu.

The two Polish features will screen on September 1 and 2 (the international premiere of Venice by Jan Jakub Kolski), and on September 3, 4, and 6 (screenings of Little Rose by Jan Kidawa -Błoński).
