"Viva Bel@rus!" Awarded in Brussels

Żywie Biełaruś (Viva Bel@rus!), a film directed by Krzysztof Łukaszewicz and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has received the award for Best Screenplay at the Flagey International Film Festival in Brussels, which closed on June 26.

Best Screenplay

Krzysztof Łukaszewicz’s Żywie Biełaruś (Viva Bel@rus!) and Katarzyna Rosłaniec’s Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues) both screened in Main Competition at this year’s edition of the Flagey festival. The international jury selected Żywie Biełaruś (Viva Bel@rus!) as the winner of the Best Screenplay Award; the screenplay was written by Krzysztof Łukaszewicz and Franak Viačorka. The winner of the Best Film Award was the Franco-German co-production Michael Kohlhaas, directed by Arnaud des Pallières.

Polish Films in Festival Lineup

Belgian audiences also had an opportunity to see Jacek Borcuch’s feature Nieulotne (Lasting), winner of the Best Cinematography Award in Sundance for photography by Michał Englert, as well as Sławomir Fabicki’s Miłość (Loving). Both films screened in the Panorama section of the festival. All four Polish films screening at the 11th Brussels Film Festival have been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Brussels International Film Festival

The Brussels IFF aims at showcasing the latest films produced across Europe. This year’s festival lineup featured almost 70 films. Screenings were accompanied by Q&A sessions and masterclasses.
