Waldemar Pokromski Awarded

The German Film Awards (Deutscher Filmpreis) awards ceremony was held on April 23. The winner of the Best Film of 2009 award was Michael Haneke’s Das weisse Band (The White Ribbon). The film won a total of nine awards, including best director, best screenplay, best photography, and the acting awards. Waldemar Pokromski won the award for Best Makeup for his work on Haneke’s feature, sharing the credit with Anette Keiser. Polish actors also appear in minor roles in the film.

Waldemar Pokromski has worked with such film directors as Steven Spielberg, Tom Tykwer, and Roman Polański. He is also credited as makeup artist in the Oscar-winning Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) by Stefan Ruzowitzky, and in Uli Edel’s Der Baader Meinhof Komplex (The Baader Meinhof Complex). This prominent makeup artist’s work can also be seen in Polish features, including Mistyfikacja (Mystification) by Jacek Koprowicz, Tatarak (Sweet Rush) by Andrzej Wajda, Rewers (Reverse) by Borys Lankosz, and Janosik (Janosik. The True Story) by Agnieszka Holland.

 

Waldemar Pokromski will be one of the jurors in the Main Competition at this year’s 35th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
