Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope), a film directed by Andrzej Wajda and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has been nominated for a Cinema for Peace Award as Most Valuable Movie of the Year.

Most Valuable Movie of the Year

Andrzej Wajda’s Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) has been nominated for a Cinema for Peace Award as Most Valuable Movie of the Year. In past years, winners of this award included Good Night and Good Luck (2006), Persepolis (2008), and Lincoln (2013).

Cinema for Peace

The Cinema for Peace Foundation endeavours to promote world peace through the support of cinematographic works. The Foundation is actively involved in the production, worldwide distribution and promotion of film projects that focus on violence, war, prevention of disease, and human rights violations.

Awards Ceremony in Berlin

The twelfth Cinema for Peace awards ceremony will take place on February 10, 2014 in Berlin and will be held in memory of Nelson Mandela. The gala will serve to commemorate several important anniversaries in the recent history of peace and conflict. Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) will symbolize a Polish anniversary: the first free elections of June 4, 1989.

Nine Films

The Most Valuable Movie of the Year category features a total of nine nominated films. Films nominated alongside Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) include 12 Years a Slave by Steve McQueen, An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker by Danis Tanović, Dallas Buyers Club by Jean-Marc Vallée, For Those Who Can Tell No Tales by Jasmila Zbanic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom by Justin Chadwick, Philomena by Stephen Frears, The Butler by Lee Daniels, and Wadjda by Haifaa Al-Mansour.
