"Wisła" Polish FF in Moscow

Wenecja (Venice) by Jan Jakub Kolski is the opening film at this year’s Polish Film Festival in Moscow, which will run from April 15 through May 5.

Venice is an acclaimed Polish feature that previously screened at film festivals in Cottbus, Tallinn, and Montreal, where it received the Special Jury Prize for Best Artistic Contribution. The film’s director of photography Arthur Reinhart received the award for Best Photography at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, the Golden Frog award at Camerimage, and the Eagle award of the Polish Film Academy. Venice also received the Polish Film Awards in the following categories: Best Production Design (Joanna Macha), Best Costume Design (Małgorzata Zacharska), Best Sound Design (Jacek Hamela).

Thirteen Polish films will screen in the “Wisła” festival’s main competition, as contenders for the Elephant prize, awarded by the Guild of Russian Film Critics.

Festival jury members are well-known in the Russian film industry. The jury will be presided by Victor Matizen, film journalist and head of the Russian Chamber of Film Critics.

Similar to last year, this year’s closing gala will include a presentation of the Elephant award for Best Polish Film. This award is founded by the Guild of Russian Film Critics, one of Russia’s most renowned film organizations, with 150 members including leading film critics and journalists. The winner of the festival will be announced on May 5.
