Maciej Karpiński named to European Film Promotion board
Maciej Karpiński, the Polish Film Institute's Deputy Director for International Relations, has been named to the board of European Film Promotion (EFP).
"The Youth and Film" - The Festival of Film Debuts in Koszalin begins
This year for the third time the festival "The Youth and Film" will have a national formula, with only Polish debuts in the competition. In the feature debuts category, 12 films will be shown; in short films there will be 54 features, animations, and documentaries.
Winners at Kraków Film Festival
Unmistaken Child by Israeli director Nati Baratz was awarded the Golden Horn at the 49th Kraków Film Festival which wound up 4 June. The Golden Dragon, an award for the best film in the International Competition, was given to Moshe Zimmerman for Pizza in Auschwitz. The Golden Hobby Horse Award in the National Competition was given to Bartek Konopka for his film Rabbit à la Berlin (Królik po berlińsku).
"Happy Afonia" ("Afonia i pszczoły") by Jan Jakub Kolski now in cinemas
The latest film by the master of poetic cinema, Jan Jakub Kolski, transports the viewer to a world where the life of the protagonist, a middle-aged beekeeper named Afonia (Grażyna Błęcka-Kolska), passes slowly in relentless rhythm. Afonia is never without her camera, which she uses to document what she sees as the fascinating world around her.
Jerzy Antczak Anniversary
It was a memorable evening: ladies in long dresses, men in elegant hats, and an abundance of white lilies. It was an anniversary fete for Jerzy Antczak, who this year celebrates his 80th birthday, organised by the Polish Filmmakers Association (SFP) and the Polish Film Institute (PISF).
49th Kraków Film Festival
The 49th Kraków Film Festival, which begins on 29 May, will feature 50 films from around the world, new documentaries by outstanding Polish filmmakers, and the only film market in Poland dedicated to promoting short, animated and documentary films.

All Will Be Well (Wszystko będzie dobrze) by Tomasz Wiszniewski was named the best feature film at the Almaty Film Festival in Kazakhstan.
"The Sound of Insects - Record of a Mummy" wins Planete Doc Review
The top award at the Planete Doc Review festival, the Millennium Award, was given to The Sound of Insects: Record of a Mummy (Odgłosy robaków - zapiski mumii) by Peter Liechti. The story concerns a hunter in a remote forest who discovers the mummified corpse of an elderly man and a detailed journal which reveals he starved himself to death.
"Rabbit à la Berlin" awarded in Toronto
The documentary film Rabbit à la Berlin (Królik po berlińsku) Bartka Konopki won an award at one of the biggest documentary film festivals, the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival. The film was chosen as the best documentary in the medium-length film category.
Szumowska wins Tarnów Film Award
The jury of the 23rd Tarnów Film Award festival, with Dorota Kędzierzawska acting as chairman, awarded the festival's Grand Prix to Małgorzata Szumowska for 33 Scenes from Life (33 sceny z życia).
Retrospective of Polish animated films in Israel
A retrospective of Polish animated films is being staged until 3 June at three locations in Israel. Viewers will see over 50 films during the festival, among whose official guests will be Zbigniew Rybczyński and Izabela Plucińska.
Jerzy Skolimowski a winner at New York festival
Four Nights with Anna (Cztery noce z Anną) by Jerzy Skolimowski won the Krzysztof Kieslowski "Beyond Borders" Award at the 5th New York Polish Film Festival.
"Tricks" in Spanish cinemas
The popular film Tricks (Sztuczki) by Andrzej Jakimowski premiered in Spanish cinemas on 24 April under the title Un cuento de verano.
Polish Cinema goes to Cannes

The French-Belgian film Malban directed by Elodie Bouedec won the Grand Prix at the fourth edition of the Animated Film Festival in Łódź.
Chilean film "La Nana" wins top award at the Off Plus Camera Festival
Chilean director Sebastián Silva won the Kraków Film Award and a USD 100,000 prize for his film La Nana at the Off Plus Camera International Festival of Independent Cinema. The director will also receive PLN 1 million from the Polish Film Institute (PISF) to produce his next film in Poland.
The Dark and Silent Ones Awarded in Houston
The Dark and Silent Ones (My, Cichociemni) by Paweł Kędzierski received the Platinum Remi Award for Best Film&Video Documentary at the independent film festival in Houston.
