Krzysztof Krauze Passed Away

Acclaimed director and screenwriter Krzysztof Krauze passed away on December 24, 2014 after an extended battle with terminal illness. Krzysztof Krauze was an award-winning feature and documentary film director; his filmography includes Dług (The Debt), Mój Nikifor (My Nikifor), Plac Zbawiciela (Saviour's Square), and Papusza.

"Ida" Wins Lux Prize

Members of the European Parliament voted to award the 2014 Lux Prize to Ida, a film by Paweł Pawlikowski. The voting results were announced on December 17 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

International Press on "Ida" Success

Ida swept the 2014 European Film Awards - that seems to be the prevalent opinion in the press after last weekend's events in Riga. December 14 brought two awards of The San Francisco Film Critics Cirle (SFFCC) in categories: Best Foreign Language Picture and Best Cinematography.

Chce się żyć (Life Feels Good), a film directed by Maciej Pieprzyca, was released theatrically in Japan on December 13. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

"Ida" Voted Best Film of 2014!

December 13 marked the European Films Awards ceremony in Riga. Ida, a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received the award for Best European Film of 2014. The film also won the Best European Director award for Paweł Pawlikowski and Best European Screenwriter award for Paweł Pawlikowski and Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski received the Carlo Di Palma Award for Best European Cinematographer. Ida also received the EFA People's Choice Award, the winner of which is selected by European viewers in an online vote.

"Ida" Nominated for Golden Globes

Nominations for the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, the annual awards of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were announced on December 11 in Beverly Hills. Ida, a film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received a nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Polish Documentaries in Competition

On December 9, the Sundance Institute announced the lineup of the short film competition at next year's Sundance festival, which takes place in January. In a little over a month, two Polish short films, both co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will compete for the title of Best Short Film: Punkt wyjścia (Starting Point) by Michał Szcześniak and Obiekt (Object) by Paulina Skibińska.

Winners of the 22nd Camerimage IFF

The 22nd Camerimage International Film Festival, an event co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, drew to a close on November 22. The Golden Frog Award for Best Film in Main Competition went to Leviathan, a film directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev and lensed by Mikhail Krichman. The award for Friend of the Festival went to Agnieszka Odorowicz, General Director of the Polish Film Institute.
