4th "Sputnik" Russian Film Festival
November 4 brought the opening gala of the 4th "Sputnik over Poland" Russian Film Festival. The evening was hosted by Jan Szczygieł, who welcomed guests as they gathered in the Concert Hall of Warsaw's Palace of Culture. Honourable guests included Russian Ambassador to Poland Alexander Alexeev, advisor to the President of the Russian Federation for Cultural Matters Yuri Laptev, representative of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation Margarita Tersaakova, and deputy director of the Russian National Film Archive Vladimir Dmitriev. The festival is also attended by filmmakers, critics, actors, and producers from Russia.
Gdynia Festival Dates Set
The Organizing Committee of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia decided that next year's 36th edition of the festival will run from June 6 to June 11, 2011.
Awards for Polish Films
Animowana historia Polski (An Animated History of Poland) by Tomasz Bagiński received the 2010 Animago award for Best Visualisation.
Silver Eye Awards for Polish Films
Several awards for best film were presented at this year's East Silver film market, part of the 14th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival in the Czech Republic. This year marked the second edition of the Silver Eye Awards - last year's award winners included Bartek Konopka's Królik po berlińsku (Rabbit a la Berlin). This year Polish filmmakers received recognition for several short films and one feature-length film.
4th "Five Flavours" FF Launched
October 26 brought the opening of the 4th "Five Flavours" Film Festival. The festival was opened by Joon Jae Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Poland. Over the next few days, film enthusiasts will have an opportunity to enjoy Asian cinema - first in Warsaw, later in Krakow, Poznan, and Katowice.
Polish Films Awarded in Leipzig
October 24 marked the closing of the 53rd DOK Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. Of the seven films representing Poland, two received prestigious awards. The Young Talent International Competition Jury awarded the Grand Prize for Short Documentary Film to Kawałek lata (A Piece of Summer) by Marta Minorowicz. The Prize of the Trade Union ver.di and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury went to Marcin Sauter for Na północ od Kalabrii (North of Calabria).

Awards for Abel Korzeniowski
Awards for the world's best composers of film music were presented at the closing gala of the World Soundtrack Academy, part of the 37th Flanders International Film Festival in Ghent (Belgium). The WSA awards have been presented annually since 2001.
Europe-India: Panel Discussion
On October 15, a panel discussion and presentation of co-production opportunities between India and European countries was held at Warsaw's Rejs cinema. This event was part of the Warsaw Script Meeting - the European segment of the Primexchange Europe-India workshop. The second session will be held next month at the Film Bazaar in Goa.
Klimkiewicz Debuts in England
Three projects by young filmmakers will receive funding from the city of Bristol, as city authorities are keen on promoting the city through its artist. One of the selected projects is to be directed by young Polish filmmaker Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, whose acclaimed short feature Hanoi-Warszawa (Hanoi-Warsaw) was recently nominated for best short at the European Film Awards. The Bristol-backed project Flying Blind will be Klimkiewicz's full-length feature debut.
"Erratum” Awarded in Chicago
Marek Lechki's Erratum continues its world tour. The most recent addition to its award list is the directorial debut award at the 46th Chicago International Film Festival. A few days earlier the film received Special Mention from the Flash Forward Competition Jury at the 15th Pusan International Film Festival.
Winners of the 26th Warsaw FF
The awards ceremony of the 26th Warsaw Film Festival was held on Saturday, October 16. Awards were presented in the festival's five competition categories, along with the FIPRESCI Jury Award and the Ecumenical Jury Award. The Warsaw Grand Prix - the top award in the festival's International Competition, funded by the City of Warsaw, went to Incendies by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve.
„Erratum” Tours the World
Marek Lechki's full-length feature debut Erratum screens in the Flash Forward competition of the ongoing 15th Pusan International Film Festival - one of the major film events in Asia.
Platige Image Nominated for ANIMAGO
Three films made by Platige Image have been nominated for the 14th edition of the ANIMAGO film awards. The ANIMAGO awards are presented annually since 1997 to the best film projects using 3D animation, visual effects, and interactive media.
Polish Films in Munich
On October 14, the Ahoj Nachbarn association will organize a film event in the "Servus Polska!" series of events promoting Polish culture in Munich.
Special Mention for "The Christening"
Marcin Wrona's Chrzest (The Christening) received special mention from the Church of Iceland Jury at the Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF), which ended on Sunday, October 3. This marks the first international award for The Christening.
Focus On Poland at Reykjavik IFF
Launched on September 23, the 7th Reykjavik International Film Festival will feature six Polish films. Marcin Wrona's Chrzest (The Christening) will screen in the festival's Main Competition, four other Polish features will be shown in the Focus On Poland special presentation, while Sztuczki (Tricks) by Andrzej Jakimowski will be part of the Youth Program.
205 Films at Warsaw Film Fest
The 26th Warsaw International Film Festival will run from October 8 through 17, 2010. There will be a total of 384 screenings: 205 films from 53 countries. Polish films at this year's festival include: Chrzest (The Christening) by Marcin Wrona, Dwa ognie (Between Two Fires) by Agnieszka Łkasiak, Lincz (Lynch) by Krzysztof Łkaszewicz, 50/50 by Krzysztof Nowińki, Bad Girls. Cela 77 (Bad Girls. Cell 77) by Janusz Mrozowski, Plama (The Stain) by Igor Chojna, and Twist & Blood by Kuba Czekaj.
"Lynch" Wins Top Prize in Koszalin
The 29th "Young and Cinema" Debut Films Festival in Koszalin came to a close Saturday night.
"This is a special place for me to be receiving this award. I live not far from here; I am a Szczecin man by birth and by choice," said the winner of the Wielki Jantar (Grand Amber) festival Grand Prize Krzysztof Łukaszewicz. "The film was a success, we hit the jackpot," added producer Włodzimierz Niderhaus.
Polish Films in Pusan
A total of six Polish feature films will screen at this year's 15th edition of the Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea. The festival runs from October 7 through October 15. The "Flash Forward" competition for first- and second-time directors from outside Asia will include Erratum by Marek Lechki.
Two awards for "Essential Killing"
The 67th Venice International Film Festival came to a close. The Special Jury Prize went to Jerzy Skolimowski's Essential Killing, a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. When accepting the award, Skolimowski thanked Ewa Piaskowska, who co-wrote and co-produced the film.. The Coppa Volpi Best Actor Award went to Vincent Gallo, the American actor who played the lead part in Skolimowski's feature. Gallo played the role of Mohammed - an Afghan fugitive who escaped from a secret military black site and now seeks recluse in the forest, fleeing from US troops.
