Karolina Piechota Awarded in Cairo
Karolina Piechota received the award for Best Actress at the 33rd International Film Festival in Cairo for her role in Splinters by Maciej Pieprzyca. The jury awarded her for "the warmth, humour and credibility she brought to the role".

Grand Off Gala 2009

Europa Cinemas in Warsaw

An interesting outlook on the technological changes was presented Friday by special guests of the conference - two masters of Polish cinema and a highly acclaimed first-time director.
Golden Duck Awards
33 Scenes from Life by Małgorzata Szumowska received the Golden Duck for Best Film of the 2008/2009 film season. The readers of Film selected Krystyna Janda as the Best Actress of the year (for her role in Sweet Rush by Andrzej Wajda), while the Best Actor award went to Borys Szyc (for his roles in Snow White and Russian Red by Xawery Żuławski and Case Unknown by Feliks Falk). There were also special awards for historical dramas to celebrate 100 years of Polish cinema. Voted the Film of the Century was The Deluge by Jerzy Hoffman, while Krystyna Janda and Tadeusz Łomnicki were chosen Best Actress and Best Actor respectively.
Watch Docs Starts December 4
The 9th International Watch Docs Film Festival - Human Rights in Film, taking place in Warsaw on December 4-13, will bring the world's best documentaries dedicated to the issues of human rights.
Award for the School Film Library
The School Film Library, or Filmoteka Szkolna, an educational programme of the Polish Film Institute, has been awarded the Platinum Goats - a special award of the 7th International Young Audience Film Festival. The festival will take place on December 6-13, 2009 in Poznań.
Films by Polish Women Directors Shown in Africa
Films by Dorota Kędzierzawska, Magdalena Piekorz, Joanna Kos-Krauze, Teresa Kotlarczyk, and Krystyna Janda will be screened at the International Images Film Festival for Women in Harare, Zimbabwe, starting this weekend.

New Film School in Gdynia

Polish Documentary Nominated
Atijat, the First Wife - the directorial debut by Anna Błaszczyk, produced by OTO Film Studio and TVP1, has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Panda Award, presented to the best documentary film at the International Documentary Film Festival in Sichuan, China. The festival took place on November 6-8, 2009.
Sputnik Landed in Poland
