Award for Małgorzata Szumowska

Małgorzata Szumowska received the Best Director award at the 8th Eurasia International Film Festival for her work on Sponsoring (Elles). The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Polish Presence in San Sebastián

Ci, którzy umierają (The Dead and the Living), a co-production between Austria, Poland and Germany directed by Barbara Albert and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will screen in Main Competition at the 60th San Sebastián International Film Festival. The competition will open with a screening of the US production Arbitrage by Nicholas Jarecki - a film that was produced in cooperation with Poland-based Alvernia Studios. Meanwhile the festival section dedicated to student films features Święto zmarłych (All Souls' Day), a film directed by Aleksandra Terpińska.

Polish Films at Filmfest Hamburg

Obława (Manhunt) and Zabić bobra (To Kill a Beaver) are two Polish films that will feature in the lineup of the 20th edition of Filmfest Hamburg. The event runs from September 27 through October 6 in Hamburg.

"In The Shadow" for the Oscars

On September 17, members of the Czech Academy of Film and Television decided to select In the Shadow (original title: Ve stínu) by David Ondříček as the official candidate of the Czech Republic for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category. In the Shadow was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Prix Europa: Polish Nominations

Several Polish films received nominations for the Prix Europa award for best European television, radio and online productions, which will be handed out in Berlin at the European Broadcasting Festival, which runs from October 20 through October 27. Among the nominated films are several films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Polish Films Run for EFA Noms

W ciemności (In Darkness) by Agnieszka Holland, Róża (Rosa) by Wojciech Smarzowski, and Courage by Roman Polanski are among the 47 films shortlisted for the final nominations for the European Film Awards. The nominees will be selected by members of the European Film Academy.

"The Photograph" Awarded in Montreal

Zdjęcie (The Photograph), directed by Maciej Adamek, received the Silver Zenith Award at the 36th World Film Festival in Montreal, which closed on September 3. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

On the Set of "Warsaw"

The banks of the Vistula river were transformed for a few nights into the set of the Polish-Norwegian co-production Warszawa (Warsaw), directed by Leiv Igor Devold. The film features performances by Polish actors Andrzej Chyra and Sylwia Juszczak.

"80 Million" Is Poland’s Oscar Candidate

The Oscar committee, launched by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski on July 20, selected 80 milionów (80 Million) by Waldemar Krzystek as Poland's candidate for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Members of the commission were: Juliusz Machulski (chairman), Tomasz Bagiński, Robert Gliński, Andrzej Jakimowski, Jan Komasa, Agnieszka Odorowicz, Waldemar Pokromski, Paweł Potoroczyn, and Grażyna Torbicka.

Polish Films - International Audience

A special event for industry professionals will be held in Warsaw between September 25 and September 27, 2012 in Warsaw. "Polish Films - International Audience. Warsaw Meetings with International Sales Agents" will be a series of meetings of Polish film producers with representatives of international sales agents. The event is organized by the Polish Film Institute, Media Desk Poland, and the Wajda School.

"Vulture" Featuring Music by Archive

January 11 will mark the Polish theatrical release of Sęp (Vulture), the feature debut from acclaimed stage director Eugeniusz Korin. The film is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The score for the film will be written by British band Archive.

"Shameless" at Chicago IFF

The first titles in the lineup of the upcoming 48th Chicago International Film Festival have been announced. One of the films to screen at this festival is Bez wstydu (Shameless), directed by Filip Marczewski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The Chicago International Film Festival runs from October 11 through October 25.
