31 films in Polish competition at Kraków Film Festival

Twenty documentary films, seven animated films, and seven short films will compete for the "Golden Lajkonik" ("Złoty Lajkonik") at the 49th Kraków Film Festival. In the international competition Poland will be represented by four films.

Adam Bauman awarded with the main prize at Hartley-Merrill competition 2009

A script by Adam Bauman, Potrójna misja (Triple Mission), was awarded the main prize of PLN 20,000 in the Hartley-Merrill Script Competition for 2009. The jury consisted of Joanna Krauze, Jan Dworak, Jacek Fuksiewicz, Jerzy Dzięgielewski, and Marcin Wrona.

The 7th New Polish Film Festival, Filmland Polen, will open on Friday in Hannover, Hamburg, Lübeck and Bremen, with screenings of Four Nights with Anna (Cztery noce z Anną) by Jerzy Skolimowski and Circle of Deceit (Die Fälschung) by Volker Schlöndorff.

Andrzej Wajda awarded in Berlin

Andrzej Wajda received the Alfred Bauer Award for Sweet Rush (Tatarak) at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. The award of the Berlinale's founder is given to directors who set new perspectives of film art.

Polish cinema fest in New York

Last season's most interesting Polish films, meetings with filmmakers, and many other attractions are planned for the annual New York Polish Film Festival. The 5th edition of the festival will be held 5-10 May at the Anthology Film Archives and the Museum of Modern Art.

An exceptional exhibition, "100 years of Polish Cinema. 1908-2008", was opened on Tuesday at the Polish Film Institute (PISF). It is a short history of Polish film recounted using shoots, fragments of reviews, film dialogues, commentaries, analyses, and even poems.

Plus Camerimage Awards

The Plus Camerimage 2008 Golden Frog went to Anthony Dod Mantle for the cinematography in Slumdog Millionare at the 16th Plus Camerimage International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography, which has just finished in Łódź. Alan Parker received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Unique Visual Sensitivity.

The latest film by Andrzej Fidyk, Yodok Stories, was nominated for the Joris Ivens Competition together with two other documentaries at the 21st IDFA International Documentary Film Festival. This award is often described as a Documentary Oscar.
